At the age of twenty two Keith founded his first business which went on to become one of the UK’s most successful luxury housebuilders. The company was accoladed with twenty nine national awards in nine years including Bronze Award Winner in the British House builder of the Year 1998; What House? 1999 Gold Award winner; Silver Award in the British House builder Awards 2000; Gold Award in the British House builder Awards 2001; What House? 2001 Bronze Award Winner; What House? Keith became known for implementing unique strategies to grow his businesses rapidly and successfully. Working with and learning from two of the world’s leading bespoke automotive and luxury yachting companies, the business developed an award winning vertical integration strategy, directly controlling its supply chain, establishing a large manufacturing facility in Fife, where it adopted Modern Methods of Construction to reduce site activities and increase factory controlled quality production.

He is a serial investor in numerous early stage companies in various sectors. Now he gives back, by working with a small and select handpicked group of entrepreneurs, coaching and mentoring, running a World Class Mastermind Programme. About Keith

Keith has had a stunningly successful career. Having had the option at a young age of becoming a professional sportsman, he instead chose a route into property and business. Originally a chartered surveyor, after graduating with honours from Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh, he created his first business aged 22 which he built into the UK’s leading luxury housebuilder, before selling to a national competitor in a multi million pound exit, all before he was aged 40. Several successful award winning businesses have followed, operating in the United Kingdom and internationally in locations from South America to the Middle East, and in sectors such as property, hospitality and aviation.

As a qualified captain, he follows a passion for yachting, and is also an experienced helicopter pilot.

Kapital always have a number of exciting projects underway where we identify the opportunity, carry out feasibility studies, negotiate the acquisition, appoint the multi disciplinary team, put together the funding packages, create the structure (outright acquisition, joint ventures, special purpose vehicles, partnerships etc), appoint and supervise the construction team and deliver the sales outcome.

We have consistently been able to build successful project teams, assembling the consultants best suited to each project. Many of these projects are now considered exemplar, with for example the new village of Cardrona studied by The Open University as an example of best practice masterplanning.

The track record in delivery of these projects is outstanding, having employed a number of different scenarios for delivery. These have included: (a) outright acquisition of land (with or without planning permission); (b) partnership with land owners where sale proceeds are divided on an agreed basis; (c) working with commercial clients on a design and build sale; (d) retaining newly built properties for long term rent.

2005 – 2015 | TRUSTEE AT CARNEGIE TRUST

Sitting on the board of Carnegie Trust (2005 to 2015), as a Trustee, the philanthropic foundation established by one of the worlds greatest philanthropists Andrew Carnegie. Special responsibilities included sitting on the Property Board overseeing of property matters, which included negotiating the sale of land to Tesco for a new hypermarket and supervising the delivery of £1million upgrade to the restaurant and tea rooms in the Pittencrief Park in Dunfermline, owned by Carnegie Trust.

2007 – 2011 | CHAIR OF FIFE SPORTS AND LEISURE TRUST

Advising on leisure opportunities and overseeing the delivery of a £50 million capital improvement programme for leisure centres (2007 to 2011), in his role as chair of Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, and agreeing the strategy for the delivery of leisure services in Fife in partnership with the Local Authority (structure comprises six council directors and six independent directors together with independent chair)

2011

Advising on funding options for one of Scotland’s largest local authorities (2011) in an effort to provide financial stimulus during difficult financial times assessing and reporting on feasibility of various financial models.

Charity

The Kapital Foundation is a registered charity (charity number SC036786), established by Keith in 2004, which has assisted various good causes, by adopting the principles of venture philanthropy. Keith has also drawn on his experience with charitable foundations established by the great industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, where Keith served as a trustee for ten years, during which time he sat on the Property Board, overseeing the extensive property portfolio.

Venture philanthropy is guided by entrepreneurial principles such as innovation, efficiency in implementation, results-oriented management, and growth intent. These principles are used by The Kapital Foundation to amplify the impact of any investments across funding instruments, including grants to organisations that cannot be financially self-sustaining.Our venture philanthropyprovides financial support, guidance, and tools for measuring the success of promising social projects.
